HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) is a modern, minimally invasive procedure recommended for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Using a high-precision laser, the tissue blocking the urinary flow is removed, then morcellated (broken into fragments) and aspirated – all with minimal bleeding and a quick recovery.
The treatment is safe, effective and suitable even for patients with a very large prostate or other associated conditions.
HoLEP is performed with the MultiPulse HoPLUS laser system, an advanced surgical device designed specifically for treating benign prostatic enlargement. It gives precise control over the tissue, minimising risks and maximising the effectiveness of the procedure.
The device allows complete enucleation of the obstructing prostate tissue, with a very low complication rate and a fast recovery for the patient.
Whatever the size of the prostate (including very large prostates), HoLEP is a safe and effective long-term solution.
If you have been diagnosed with BPH and surgery is indicated (for example, after urinary retention that required a catheter), HoLEP is the leading recommendation.

It is recommended for men with moderate or severe lower urinary tract symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate. It is effective regardless of prostate size.
The procedure is performed under anaesthesia, so you feel no pain during the operation. Afterwards, discomfort is minimal and easily managed with mild medication.
Most patients can go home 24–48 hours after the procedure, depending on their individual recovery.
Recovery is shorter than after conventional surgery. Many patients return to their normal activities within a few days, but should avoid strenuous physical effort for about 2–3 weeks.
The risks are lower than with traditional procedures. You may notice a mild burning sensation when passing urine or some blood in the urine during the first few days, but these settle quickly. Temporary leakage of urine on exertion (stress incontinence) may also occur, more often in patients with very large prostates, and it tends to resolve as the body recovers.
Yes. A follow-up visit is recommended a few weeks after the procedure to assess healing and discuss any further recommendations.
